14 Months!

I’m a few days late on Maisy’s 14 Month Post because I haven’t taken a picture of her yet…but as I sit here typing this, I snapped this picture which completely sums her up these days:

Photo 1 (1)

She walks around with one shoe on, one shoe off ALL THE TIME.  I don’t know why, it’s just her thing!  She walks around screaming.  No tears, just screaming, I guess just to hear herself.  She’s so pretty, it’s hard to be mad at her, even when she’s screaming and all we want is some peace and quiet! And the camo dress…well that just shows what a Daddy’s girl she is. Here’s what else she’s up to:

  • She wears mostly 12 month & some 18 month clothes, size 4 diapers, size 3 shoes.
  • She eats anything and everything.  Her favorite foods are cheese, banana cookies, blueberries, and popsicles.
  • She has 4 teeth, I don’t know why her teeth take so long to come in, but I think this contributes to her screaming all the time now.  We got one of those rubber pacifiers out and started giving it to her at bed time for some relief.
  • She has started saying a few more words…the sweetest one being AMEN when we’re done praying!  I’ve heard her say “Brubba” a few times calling out for Ryder, she says “doooown” for when she wants up or down!  Mainly she just walks around saying “dat” and screaming…as I think I’ve mentioned :/
  • She knows how to give the best hugs, and will actually squeeze when you tell her to.  She also gives eskimo kisses and butterfly kisses on cue!
  • She goes to bed around 8:00 and wakes up around 7:00.  She has had a few nights where she has woke up screaming like she had a bad dream or something in the past month.
  • She can follow directions so well, it amazes me how she can understand so much of what we say.  She will pick something up and throw it in the trash, wipe her face, help clean up, shut the door, then after she follows whatever direction we gave her, she claps for herself.
  • She loves to mimic things that I do, like cleaning something up with a rag, sweeping with a broom, carrying a purse, rocking my baby…she’s a nurturing little Mommy/house wife already!  It especially comes out when Ryder is upset, she runs over to him and pats him and lays her head on him, trying to make him feel better.
  • Oh those two, they have the funniest relationship.  They are together all day every day, they don’t ever have time apart so they definitely know how to get on each others nerves.  But then when they aren’t together they miss each other and want to be together again.
  • She is very daring, loves to climb, dance, climb THEN dance (yes like on tables), explore, make messes, pick on her brother, get in trouble, as long as there’s action, she’s good to go!

This is definitely the age where your baby fever goes away and you realize how hard toddlers are!!  She constantly has to be watched but she doesn’t want to be told what to do (or NOT to do), she wants to be independent but needs help, wants to be held but then wants to direct you where to go and what to give her.  Exhausting…but fun and exciting and always something new!  Can’t wait to see what the next month brings (but first I want to get some sleep!)

Ryder Funnies

Always entertaining! :)

One of Maisy’s favorite words is “drink”, she walks around the house saying “drnk drnk drnk drnk” all the time, the girl just can’t get enough.  The other day she came in the kitchen asking for a “drnk” and Ryder said in the most frustrated voice “Can you say may I please have some juice????  Gooooooshhhhh you have no manners Maisy!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I guess because we’re pressing manners with him he’s flowing that down to Maisy.  The other day he was playing with several toys and would not let her have just one.  She kept trying and trying and he’d grab them from her and say “You have to say may I please play with that”…”I’m going to let you have it but you have to ask nicely”…Finally I stepped in and told him to stop messing with her and let her play!  “Sorry Mom, I only share my toys with kids who say PLEASE!”  This girl better get to talking!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ryder does not dress himself (for obvious reasons…it’s very difficult) but I’m realizing that I need to start pushing for him to atleast try.  So last night as he was getting into his pajama’s I held open his shirt and told him to put his arms through.  He got Righty through just fine, then attempted to push Lefty through.  “Lefty’s stuck” he said “Like pee in a bowl that hasn’t been flushed!”  Good analogy Ryder…really???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some mornings he’s a little sluggish and I have to coax him along to get him out the door.  This morning he got to the front porch and stopped.  I walked down the steps, put Maisy in the truck, came back around and he was still standing there at the top of the porch.  “Come ON Ryder” I said (okay maybe I yelled!) His response: “Momma you need to come carry me because my legs aren’t going to walk the right way.  If you don’t carry me my legs are going to turn around and walk back inside!”  I’d love to use this excuse one day…sorry boss couldn’t make it in, my legs made the wrong choice!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I got Maisy in the truck, carried Ryder and his misbehaving legs to the truck, then I had to run back up to the porch and get all of our bags but then I realized I had left my coffee inside, so I ran inside grabbed that, came back out to a lot of noise and commotion coming from the truck.  Oh Boy.  As I opened the door, Maisy is screaming and Ryder is yelling at her for crying. “Maisy, I said you have THREE Choices!!!!  You can either get yelled at OR be happy!!!  Which one do you choose????”

Family Update

Alan & I are trying to come up with this master plan to get out of our house and into a new house with more space!  Of course with the way the market is, selling our house is not an option so this would mean renting our house and purchasing another one.  Scary stuff…but we’re moving forward.  It will either work out or it won’t, so we’re just trusting that God will lead us down whichever path is right for our family.

Maisy’s top tooth finally came in, so she now has 4 teeth.  These teeth are making her so grumpy, I wish they’d start coming in faster so we could get past this phase!  Daddy went on a bike ride Saturday and came home Sunday.  Maisy was SO happy to see him that she was glued to his side for the rest of the day. She didn’t even want to take her normal nap alone!

They are quite the pair…moments like these melt my heart!

Oh, this guy…always a million things going on with Ryder!  We’re trying to get him into this Special Education Pre-K program through the Public school system, where he’ll have therapists with him all day.  The hope is that getting him in this early he’d be able to streamline into regular Pre-K next year, OR spend 2 years in this program and then go into regular Kindergarten.  I think it will be SO good for him…he is at a point where he really needs to be working on function throughout the day to get him doing age appropriate things: dressing himself, buttons, zippers, drawing, cutting, catching/kicking a ball…to name a few :)  They’re coming out to our house on Monday to test him for eligibility so we’ll see what happens!

So in a few weeks I could possibly be posting that we have a child starting school and that we’re moving!!!  Or not.  I hate when things are up in the air…it’s not good for my always-want-to-be-in-control attitude.  And this is the exact place God loves to put me in, where my only choice is to put my faith and trust in Him as He unfolds HIS master plan, not ours!

And that would be the short version of a family update!

What We’ve Been Up To

So much going on, so little time to upload pictures and blog!!  I hate going more than a few days without posting anything because then it’s hard to go back and catch up.  So I’ll have to use the pictures from my phone and camera to help me remember exactly what we’ve been up to!

Me & Ryder baked some 4th of July cupcakes and these kids tore them up…

Daddy went away for a Bachelor party last weekend so Ryder was the “Man of the House” as Alan tells him.  When it was time for bed that night Ryder told me since he was the Man of the House he got to sleep in Daddy’s bed!  Sounded good to me :)

The next night we went and had a sleepover with Carter & Callie since their Daddy was gone too.  It’s so funny seeing all 4 of them running around and playing together!

We had a fun time celebrating Sophia’s 4th Birthday last saturday!  I didn’t get any pics of the Birthday girl, but here is Ryder hanging out in the pool:

And Maisy enjoying the Birthday Cake!

Daddy came back with presents…including a Hermit Crab for each of them.  Ryder named them Oso & Buffo…haha.

Maisy didn’t care about anything but her Daddy being home!  That was a rough few days for her not being able to see him…because:

She’s all about her Daddy!

Ryder got to go for his 2nd little ride on Daddy’s motorcycle…another one just in our neighborhood but he absolutely loves it!

And I absolutely love this picture of Maisy sleeping…ahhhh she’s just so precious.

Except for lately, these teeth have been killing her!  So she has gone from precious…to this:

A hot mess!  Her first top one finally came through, I can’t believe she only has 3 teeth!  Here’s our little hillbilly:

Was that mean?  Me & Ryder have been calling her Hillbilly Deluxe with her one front tooth…she might get mad about that when she gets older and reads this.  Love you Maze! :)

This weekend we celebrated Callie’s 1st Birthday, can’t believe our babies are already ONE whole year old!

Of course Ryder was front and center, he loves to serenade the Birthday person, PLUS he knows the closer you are to the cake, the sooner you get your piece!

We met my Sister & Step-Dad for dinner and got to see my nephew Conner…getting SO big of course!!!  Love him!

Ryder did something so amazing in therapy the other day:

2012-07-27_07-46-30_602

He has always had some pretty big fears…of swings, of being laid on his back or stomach, of being unstable…so Miss Abby getting him to lay on his stomach, in a sling swing hanging from the ceiling, and then alternate Righty & Lefty to pull himself up this zip line is nothing short of amazing!  So proud of our little guy :)

Speaking of that guy, I have a few funnies to end with.

On the way to therapy today out of the clear blue sky Ryder said “Mom, you’re not supposed to put the chocolate milk syrup in the fridge.”  Totally caught off guard I said “what do you mean, why do you say that?”  He said very adamantly “BECAUSE it says on the back DO NOT REFRIGERATE!”.  I checked when I got home, it really does say that!!  Do you keep your chocolate milk syrup in the fridge?!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the weekends when I lay Ryder down for bed I always tell him “make sure you don’t wake up until the sun comes up”…that buys us until about 7am because as soon as he knows the sun is up he knows it’s okay to get out of bed!  The other morning he got up and met me in the kitchen where I was making coffee.  He asked “Is Daddy awake yet?” I told him he wasn’t and his response of course made me laugh “Well what’s an old man doing sleeping in the sunlight??!!”
Ryder As A 3 Year Old
DSC_2775(2)
Well Ryder has been 3 for a few months now so I’m kind of getting the gist of what being 3 years old is all about for him.
I have one word: NEGOTIATIONS!  He thinks that he should have a say so in just about everything.  And when what we “say” doesn’t adhere to his already planned out ideas…he is sure to try to convince us otherwise.  It often starts off with “I have a better plan…”  The bad part is that his negotiating skills are pretty amazing, so sometimes his ideas really are better.  Which doesn’t help when we mean business and cannot/will not change our minds, because then he tries extra hard to convince us, which just leads downhill.
Speaking of downhill, we had our first horrible embarrassing grocery store moment where we were the ones in the check out line with the kid who was throwing a fit!  Over a toy!  It was so bad, I never want to relive it.  Hopefully his punishment was bad enough that we never will have to, but something tells me that all of the months left of him being a 3 year old leaves way too many open doors leading to that dark, scary place again.
Speaking of dark, scary places…being 3 years old is tough and leads to lots of punishment.  I don’t know that a single day goes by that he doesn’t get in trouble for something.  I’ve heard people say that the 3’s are worse than the 2’s…Yeah, I’d say!  This is definitely a very trying age…him TRYING to get under our skin and us TRYING not to kill him.
Oh but there’s always a flip side.  Those sweet make up moments where he confesses his love and adoration for his Mommy & Daddy.  The cuddling moments where he grabs my hand and says “I’ll never let you go Mommy, you’re mine forever”.  He can melt my heart with just a look but his words layer the sweetness on thick.
The day that Ryder turned 3 years old I told him he was a big boy and would be wearing underwear from then on.  I dealt with the accidents for a few days following and then they stopped.  He even decided he didn’t want pull-ups at night and has only ever had one night time accident!  This is pretty exciting for us considering how much the Doctors expressed he’d have a hard time with potty training.  With that said, he does “drip” in between his trips to the potty, so his underwear stay a little damp.  He is even learning how to pull his pants and underwear up and down, this is a huge challenge for him to do one-handed but Nana has been encouraging him during the day and showing him how to do it with 2 hands.
The most amazing thing happened to this little 3 year old on the night of Mother’s Day.  I put him to bed and he told me he was ready to pray and ask Jesus to come into his heart.  He did, I cried, and when I got back to our room Daddy had listened to the whole thing over the monitor and even he had tears streaming.  The sweetest part was that during his prayer he said “And I’ll lock it up with a key so you can’t ever fly out of there.”  I know he’s young and he can’t completely comprehend what it means to give your life to God, but I never want him to forget how important Jesus has been in his life, starting at such a young age.
Another thing I never want to forget are some of his little vocabulary quirks.  He has always been pretty good with pronunciation and using his words in the right context…so when he does mix something up, or come up with a new way to say something it’s pretty funny to us.  Some examples:
Motecon Retrol = Remote Control
Oven Bread = Any kind of rolls baked in the oven
Up & Down Bridge = The bridge to Maryland
Work Van Truck = Any type of work van or work truck
And lately he has been trailing off at the end of any word that ends in a soft sounds like an S.  He’ll say “Thanks ks ks ks” or “lets build blocks ks ks ks”.  I asked a speech therapist at the therapy center if it’s possible to stutter at the end of a word and she laughed, said it’s probably just a little quirk of his right now.
Another quirk of his that I hope passes soon is that you can’t say the word Tomorrow in front of him without him yelling “Tomorrow I’m going to baseball!”  The background here is that the day he got put to sleep for botox he told the nurse he wanted to play baseball and she said “well you probably won’t be able to do that until tomorrow”.  Apparently he has no concept of what tomorrow really means, to him it must be like a day that hasn’t gotten here yet or something because for the past 2 months anytime the word tomorrow is mentioned you will here “TOMORROW I HAVE TO GO TO BASEBALL!!!”
Another quirk are his 2 little fantasy worlds he lives in.  The first is with his Grandma up in Heaven.  Any time he finds something he really likes or wants you to let him do something he will say “My Grandma up in Heaven ALWAYS used to let me eat Chocolate before bed.  She loves me.  My Grandma up in Heaven wears Green shirts because she knows that’s my favorite color.  My Grandma up in Heaven alwayssss used to buy me these cookies from the store!”  I love that he talks about his Grandma all the time, it helps keep her memory alive in our house…and it’s just funny considering he has never even met her but you’d think she’s the closest person to him.  The other one is his Fire Station that he says he owns.  Any time we’re driving somewhere he’ll say “I’ll tell you when we pass my fire station” and if we are ever looking for something he’ll say “don’t worry I have an extra _____ at my firestation, we can just drive by there and pick it up.”  He will go into great detail about what his fire station looks like, what people do there, what supplies he has there, etc.
So that sums up our 3 year old Ryder…he’s mischievous, quirky, bad, good, loveable, silly, with the best imagination, and we can’t forget hilarious.  I’ll end with some of his latest funnies:
One day Ryder & Alan were in the car together making a trip to the store.  I called to check in with them and Alan had me on speaker phone.  I could hear Ryder laughing in the background so I said “Ryder what is so funny???”  He said “Mommy your husband his hilarious!!!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The other morning Ryder was in his sisters face picking on her, I was getting irritated for her so I yelled at him pretty loudly “would you leave her ALONE??!!!”  Without even acknowledging me, he looked at Maisy and said “Come here Maze, don’t go near her, she’s as scary as a ghost!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Mommyyyyyyyyyyy” Ryder came running in from outside “I know how to spell Work Van Truck!!!!”
Me: “Wow, you do??”
Ryder: “YES!  B – F – P – E!!” (those would be the letters on the side of Alan’s work truck).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This morning Maisy went in Ryder’s room to help wake him up and I heard Ryder yelling at her “Maissyyyy don’t mess up my trap!!  Get away from my trap!!!”  I walked in his room and said “what trap are you talking about???”  As I saw that he had put 2 little chairs next to his bed with a bucket in each one.  He said “I set up these monster traps to catch any monsters that come near me when I’m sleeping!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other night he started yelling for me about 15 minutes after I put him to bed telling me he had to pee.  I had suspicions that he was just telling stories, but of course I went and got him, we ran to the bathroom, pulled his pants down, then we were both just standing there staring at each other.  I said “Ryder, seriously, do you have to pee or what??”  He said “Mom, be patient, it takes like an hour to come!”
